If your ZenHome device (like a smart thermostat or camera) is having trouble connecting to your home Wi-Fi network, using a mobile hotspot from your smartphone can help get it online temporarily—for tasks like troubleshooting or installing a firmware update.
Follow the steps below to turn on a mobile hotspot and connect your ZenHome device.
📱 Step 1: Enable Mobile Hotspot on Your Smartphone
For iPhone (iOS):
- Go to Settings
- Tap Personal Hotspot
- Toggle Allow Others to Join to On
- Note the Wi-Fi Password and Network Name (SSID) shown on the screen
For Android:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Network & Internet or Connections
- Select Hotspot & Tethering
- Tap Wi-Fi Hotspot
- Turn the hotspot On
- Note the Network Name (SSID) and Password
💡 You can usually customize your hotspot name and password—choose something simple if it helps!
📶 Step 2: Connect Your ZenHome Device to the Hotspot
Once your mobile hotspot is active:
- On your ZenHome device (e.g. thermostat), go to Settings > Network
- Look for the name of the hotspot (SSID) from your phone in the list of available networks
- Select it, enter the password, and connect
You should see a confirmation on the device when it’s successfully connected.
🛠️ Step 3: Let ZenHome Support Know You’re Connected
If you're working with a ZenHome support agent, let them know once the device is online—they can then assist with running diagnostics or initiating a firmware update.
✅ Important Notes
- Stay near your ZenHome device with your smartphone for the best signal
- Once troubleshooting is complete, you can switch your device back to your home Wi-Fi
- If your data plan is limited, be cautious with hotspot usage—it uses mobile data
